Kris Commons has criticised Rangers mainstay Alfredo Morelos and believes that he needs to be much more clinical in front of goal.

The 21-year-old is a permanent feature in the starting Xi and is the first-choice centre-forward at Ibrox.

He has netted 17 goals in 36 games across all competitions this season and made an immediate impact in Scotland since his summer arrival.

However, Sky Sports pundit has ripped into Morelos due to his goalscoring prowess and feels that he frequently misses easy chances.

He went on to suggest that potential champions would need a far more potent striker that can bury easy chances.

Rangers are second-placed in the league standings and find themselves with a 10-point gap behind runaway leaders Celtic.

“Morelos is missing sitters on almost a weekly basis,” Commons wrote in the Scottish Daily Mail. “To be champions or contend at the top of the league, win cups, you need a striker who will score eight out of ten chances.

“It seems to me that Morelos is missing six or seven out of every ten he’s getting.”

OPINION

It is hard to criticise Morelos considering the impact he has made with the Light Blues in his debut season, but it is true that he can still make some guilt-edge chances. The pacy Colombian has brilliant predatory instincts and has shown that he has a knack of finding space in the penalty area. There are a large number of fans that grow frustrated with his inconsistency, but you can’t expect much more from such a young player. He is still on course to smash the 20-goal barrier in his first season in Scotland and has such a bright future ahead of him.
