Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic plan to hold talks with Scott Bain about converting his loan into a permanent transfer.

The Hoops manager shared that he thought the 26-year-old goalkeeper was “outstanding” during the 3-2 victory over Rangers and revealed that the club would be open to signing him on a full-time basis.

“I thought Scott Bain was absolutely outstanding last week to come into a game of that magnitude,” said Rodgers, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I think it’s short and long-term (when asked about the possibility of keeping him), it’s pretty clear that he has the temperament and qualities to play as a goalkeeper for Celtic.

“We will sit down with him and see how much he is going to enjoy it and look at his game-time between now and the end of the season.”

Bain is currently on loan at the Hoops from Dundee until the end of the season, but his current contract is set to expire in the summer.

The Bhoys face tough competition getting his signature as the Scottish Sun previously reported that Birmingham, Bristol City, Hearts and Hibernian were all interested in signing him.

OPINION

Bain certainly made a memorable impression when he made his Hoops debut against the Gers last Sunday. The 26-year-old goalkeeper would be a very good signing for the club to make, based on that outing alone. Rodgers’ usual number one choice, Craig Gordon, is currently sidelined with a knee injury. However the club would be wise to sign a permanent replacement or at least someone who can challenge him for a place in the team, as the veteran goalkeeper is getting on a bit now, as he is 35-years-old.  The Hoops should be able to see off their competition for Bain’s signature as they’re clearly the biggest club in the race for it.
