Championship duo Birmingham and Bristol City have joined the race for on-loan Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to hold on to the 26-year-old stopper after his contract at Dundee ends this summer.

The Sun report that Edinburgh clubs Hearts and Hibernian are also interested in Bain, with Hibs boss Neil Lennon confirming his interest this week.

It is said that Celtic are chasing a long-term agreement for Bain, who arrived at the club on loan in January in a transfer triangle that saw Scott Allan join Hibs and Simon Murray join Dundee.

Good move for Celtic?

Absolutely.

Celtic number one Craig Gordon isn’t getting any younger, and neither is second-choice Dorus De Vries.

Bain is coming into the prime of his career, and is looking good so far for Celtic.

The fact that this is on a free transfer makes it low risk, and a no-brainer for the Hoops.

Likely to happen?

You would think that if Bain plays well at Parkhead between now and the end of the season, then he will decide on a move to Celtic.

There is no bigger club in the country at the moment, and going to a Championship club would run several risks that he may not want to take.

The only issue would be his place in the pecking order, with Gordon set to return from injury by the summer.
