OPINION

Celtic travelled to Fir Park for a Premiership clash against Motherwell on Sunday, and there were plenty of average performances in a disappointing 0-0 draw.

The Hoops made the short trip south to Motherwell hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table to 12 points after closest rivals Rangers lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday.

In a first-half that saw both sides create chances to take the lead, Celtic went closest through James Forrest, who shot straight at Trevor Carson after being played in by the lively Tom Rogic.

The highlight of that first 45 minutes came just minutes before the break as Motherwell defender Cedric Kipre saw red for the second time against the Hoops this season.

Kipre was involved in an altercation with Celtic skipper Scott Brown on the floor, and the Motherwell man kicked out at the Scotland international to get his marching orders.

Celtic then pushed on in the second-half as they tried to make their man-advantage count, with Moussa Dembele going close with a header over the bar.

Patrick Roberts hit the bar with a rasping shot before Scott Sinclair should have done better when played through on goal in the last-minute as Celtic came up against a dogged Motherwell display.
