Scott Bain has shared that he would love to stay at Celtic beyond this season and would rather a deal got done sooner rather than later.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper is currently on loan at the Hoops from Dundee until the end of the season, but his Dundee contract is set to expire in the summer.

Bain commented on potentially joining Brendan Rodgers’ side on a permanent basis and practically issued a come-and-get-me-plea to the club by sharing his desire to stay.

“I would love to be here. I’ve loved every minute of being at this club and the fans have been fantastic with me,” said the goalkeeper, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“Here I can reach my potential with the staff and the players I train with every day.

“I would like it to be here as this club has got everything for me to improve, I’d love to stay here and if I continue to play well then it stands me in good stead.

“I’d rather get it done sooner than later but it’s not a priority right now, it’s just a priority to play well and do well for this club.”

Bain has so far made two appearances for the Hoops this season, keeping one clean sheet in the process.

Rodgers previously confirmed that the Hoops would try to sign Bain on a free transfer, with the Bhoys manager particularly impressed by the goalkeeper’s performance against Rangers.

“I thought Scott Bain was absolutely outstanding last week to come into a game of that magnitude,” said Rodgers, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I think it’s short and long-term (when asked about the possibility of keeping him), it’s pretty clear that he has the temperament and qualities to play as a goalkeeper for Celtic.

“We will sit down with him and see how much he is going to enjoy it and look at his game-time between now and the end of the season.”

The Bhoys face tough competition getting his signature as the Scottish Sun previously reported that Birmingham, Bristol City, Hearts and Hibernian were all interested in signing him.

OPINION

Rodgers is definitely keen to keep Bain at Celtic as he has publicly talked about the club trying to sign the goalkeeper. The Hoops may have a lot of competition when it comes to getting his signature but with the goalkeeper revealing that he is loving life at Parkhead, they should win the race to get him. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has the ability to keep Craig Gordon out of the team, and could be the Hoops’ number one goalkeeping choice for the next few seasons. Based on Bain’s comments, the Hoops should submit a contract offer for him as soon as possible, otherwise it might affect his performances in the games that remain.
