West Ham’s Reid out for the season

|

Winston Reid will miss the rest of the season for West Ham, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims the 29-year-old central defender sustained a knee injury during the 4-1 defeat to Swansea City, and that his injury will keep him out for the rest of the campaign.

Sky Sports report that Reid was taken to hospital after twisting his knee in the 27th minute of Saturday’s game.

Reid received oxygen on the pitch as he was also knocked unconscious during that game.

The centre-back has made 20 appearances for the Hammers across all competitions this season, and only recently returned to the team following a groin injury.

The game against the Swans was actually the first time since January 7 that Reid was selected to start a game by David Moyes.

OPINION

Moyes seemed to be easing Reid back into first-team action after a groin injury, but it seems that the defender has now been sidelined for the rest of the season, despite his manager trying to protect him. The Hammers have been unfortunate with injuries this season, and Moyes is no doubt pulling his hair out after suffering yet another selection headache. Reid would have been very useful in the second half of the season, with the Hammers set to battle for their Premier League status, but now they have to find a way to cope without him. Moyes will have to hope who ever starts in Reid’s place against Burnley on Saturday is able to perform in his absence.
