West Ham identify director of football favourite

|

West Ham are preparing to appoint an experienced director of football in the summer and have identified their prime candidate for the job, according to a club insider.

ExWHUemployee, who is a reliable source for exclusive West Ham insider information on Twitter, confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon.

Ex was asked by a fan if the reports suggesting the move were true, and he replied: “It is true yes and they have already identified the person that they want.”

As reported by the Evening Standard, the Hammers are to appoint an experienced director of football, with owners David Gold and David Sullivan to take a step back from transfer dealings.

The report claims that the move is an attempt to appease fans who have grown frustrated at the club’s recruitment strategy, with that anger coming to a head with the trouble following their 3-0 loss to Burnley at the weekend.

OPINION

It is clear that something needs to be done to appease the West Ham fanbase, which has become increasingly impatient in recent months. The fan trouble following the Burnley loss, which included coins being thrown at the owners, was unacceptable, but those terrible scenes made it clear that changes must be made. Gold and Sullivan clearly care about the club, but their lack of real football knowledge has shown with some terrible transfers, and a director of football may be a good move for the Hammers in the long run.
