Frank Lampard has suggested that Aaron Ramsey might be looking to leave Arsenal as he has never been seen as the main man at the club.

In his column for the London Evening Standard, the BT Sports pundit shared that he admired the 27-year-old midfielder’s talents and urge the Gunners to ensure that Ramsey’s long-term future was at the club.

“I’m an admirer of Aaron Ramsey and Arsenal must try to secure his long-term future at the club,” wrote Lampard.

“Ramsey has just over a year left on his contract and once again Arsenal have got themselves in a position where one of their key player’s deals is running out.

“It will probably come as no surprise to people that I like Ramsey, like me, he makes late runs in the penalty area and he showed that with aplomb for the second goal at AC Milan last week.

“One wonders if he’s ever felt he’s the main man at Arsenal and that’s maybe why he might consider looking elsewhere.”

Lampard went on to admit that he understands the 27-year-old needs to be more consistent but revealed that he thought he was “class” when at his best.

The BT Sports pundit, before finishing his column, added that he expected the Gunners to be able to do enough on Thursday against AC Milan in order to progress further in the Europa League.

OPINION

Ramsey’s contract expires in 2019 and it’s hard to determine whether the club should splash the cash to keep him. The Times previously reported that the midfielder wanted a contract they would see earn in the region of £170,000-per-week and that’s a lot of cash to spend on an inconsistent performer. Ramsey is still a regular in Arsene Wenger’s side, having made 22 appearances this season, but he hasn’t exactly put in many memorable displays during this campaign. While Lampard revealed that he thought the midfielder was class when at his best, he is not at his best very often.
