Michael Owen has predicted Southampton to defeat West Ham when the sides meet at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The former Liverpool striker shared that he thought if there was going to be a winning team in Saturday’s game, then it will be the Saints rather than the Hammers.

“This is a massive game near the foot of the Premier League table and Mark Hughes will have been delighted by the Saints win at Wigan in the FA Cup a fortnight ago,” wrote Owen in his BetVictor predictions.

“It is well-documented that West Ham have their problems on and off the pitch having lost their last three league games by a three-goal margin.

“It looks sure to be a tight, tense affair and if there is to be a winner, I feel the Saints might take the points.”

The Hammers go into Saturday’s game sat 17th in the Premier League, one place above Mark Hughes’ side.

However the Hammers only have two more points then their upcoming opponents, and David Moyes knows that his side will drop into the bottom three if they lose to the Saints.

OPINION

Hammers supporters will hope Owen is barking up the wrong tree with his prediction, as they know that their side must win on Saturday. Owen refers to the fact that Moyes’ side have suffered three heavy loses in a row, as the reason why he thinks they could lose to the Saints. However it is very likely that the current Hammers’ first-team will raise their game as there is so much at stake. If the Hammers do fall into the relegation zone on Saturday, then they only have seven games in which to get themselves out. It’s also worrying what the reaction of the Hammers fans will be if they lose to the Saints, as no one wants to see scenes similar to the ones seen during the 3-0 defeat to Burnley.
