Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for young Hamburg striker Jann-Fiete Arp, according to Sport Bild

The German newspaper report that the 18-year-old is highly likely to leave Hamburg should they get relegated, an outcome which is looking nailed on with the club now seven points from Bundesliga safety.

Bild claim that Tottenham are leading the race for Arp, with the Germany youth international a boyhood fan of the club.

It is said that Arp would cost Spurs around £9million this summer, with his current deal at the club expiring in 2019.

German giants Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are also reportedly options for Arp, but Spurs are well-placed, with Arp already speaking good English.

And, alongside supporting the Lilywhites, Arp idolises Spurs striker Harry Kane, and tries to model his play on the 24-year-old, as reported by the BBC.

Good move for Tottenham Hotspur?

Absolutely.

Arp is a rising star of German football, having played a big role for their youth teams in major tournaments last summer before breaking into the Hamburg first-team this season.

The 18-year-old is undoubtedly still raw, but he would be the perfect player to bring in as an understudy to Kane, a player he is known to idolise.

Arp would be a long-term project for the club, but one that could pay massive dividends considering the maturity he is showing so early in his career, and at around £9million, he would be a steal too.

Likely to happen?

Firstly, Hamburg need to get relegated for him to leave, which is looking increasingly likely.

Then, Spurs must capitalise on the great position they find themselves in to complete a deal for the 18-year-old, which won’t be easy with Bayern breathing down their neck.
