Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has seized personal control of the club’s search for a sponsor for their new stadium, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that Levy has lost patience with industry specialist firm TRM, who helped negotiate Chelsea’s £40million-a-year shirt deal with Yokohama Tyres.

The Mail report that Levy has now dumped TRM in order to take control of the key search, and is seeking a deal that would bring in £20million every year for 20 years.

It is said that Levy is holding out for a brand that will suit the club, with the stadium’s financing not dependent on a deal being worked out immediately.

Levy recently told the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust that the ground would be known as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until a sponsor deal is agreed.

OPINION

It is not surprising to hear that Levy has grown tired of TRM, with the Tottenham chairman a notoriously tough negotiator. It will also be no surprise if Levy does end up securing the deal he wants for the stadium, which would be massive for the club going forward. One more important point to take from this however is Levy’s claim that the ground will be known as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until a deal is struck, but we all know that will not happen. To fans, the ground will always be White Hart Lane, and that will no doubt be the widely used term for the new stadium.
