Jamie Redknapp has revealed that he believes Mauricio Pochettino should have brought Victor Wanyama on in the second half against Juventus.
The Sky Sports pundit shared that when Spurs were 1-0 up, Pochettino should have tried to protect his side’s lead by bringing on the 27-year-old midfield enforcer.
“Tottenham seemed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, with more than an hour gone they were 1-0 up and in control,” wrote Redknapp in his column for the Daily Mail.
“At that stage in the second half, I thought they should have brought on Victor Wanyama and tried to protect their lead but they kept going for another goal.
“In doing so, Spurs left themselves open and were punished.”
Spurs conceded two goals in four minutes in Wednesday’s game against Juventus at Wembley, which sent them crashing out of the Champions League.
Wanyama never featured in the game and was an unused substitute.

A lot will be written by pundits in the coming days about where Pochettino went wrong against Juventus. Redknapp seems to believe that adding Wanyama to the game on Wednesday, would have stopped Spurs from exiting the Champions League. However, it was always going to be a hard task stopping Gonzalo Higuain or Paulo Dybala from scoring. If Pochettino had added the 27-year-old midfielder to the game, it would have helped Spurs at the back, but the result still might have been the same. Wanyama has made 15 appearances this season and barring his goal against Liverpool, hasn’t looked like the player he was before his injury. The midfielder spent a significant amount time on the sidelines and as of yet, hasn’t gotten back up to speed.
