Tottenham’s Eric Dier is a main transfer target for Manchester United, according to Transfermarketweb.

The football website claim that Jose Mourinho’s side believe the 24-year-old would be the perfect replacement for Michael Carrick who is expected to retire at the end of the season.

Transfermarketweb report that Spurs are unwilling to sell Dier but Manchester United could test their desire to keep the midfielder by bidding £55million in order to get negotiations started.

Dier has regularly featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, making 40 appearances across all competitions.

Jose Mourinho’s side tried to sign Dier last summer, with Manchester Evening News  reporting at the time, that the Portuguese manager was optimistic about a deal going through.

Good move for Tottenham?

Financially it would be a rewarding deal, but Dier is clearly loved by Pochettino and important to the way the side plays.

The 24-year-old is able to play as a defensive midfielder or as a centre-back which gives Pochettino options when setting up his team.

Dier is nowhere near being worth £55million, at this point in time, and it would be logical to sell him if Manchester United bid that amount for him.

However, Daniel Levy wants to keep Pochettino happy at the club and if he sold Dier, the Argentinian manager would be disappointed to say the least.

Likely to happen?

No, it would be a massive shock if Dier ended up at Old Trafford.

Even though Manchester United are reportedly willing to start the bidding at an amount that Spurs should accept, Dier is going nowhere.

The 24-year-old midfielder is one of Pochettino’s favourite, shown by how often he plays, and will be at Spurs for a long time if Pochettino gets his way.
