Former Tottenham Hotspur loanee Pau Lopez has turned down a potential return to the club to join Real Betis at the end of the season, according to ABC de Sevilla.

The Spanish newspaper report that goalkeeper Lopez has agreed a deal in principle to join Betis on a free transfer in the summer after his contract with Espanyol expires.

ABC claim that Betis have lured Lopez to the club with a lucrative contract until 2023, but the 23-year-old is also attracted by the club’s long-term ambitions.

It is said that Tottenham, where Lopez spent the 2016/17 season on loan, were among several other teams who wanted the goalkeeper this summer, with Juventus also interested.

The youngster has lost his place as Espanyol’s number one stopper to namesake Diego Lopez after his refusal to sign a new deal at the Barcelona club.

Good move for Tottenham Hotspur?

This would be a decent move for Spurs.

Lopez is highly-rated in Spain, and obviously caught the eye of Mauricio Pochettino to warrant his loan move to Spurs last season.

Likely to happen?

It looks pretty certain that Lopez will join Real Betis this summer.

And that is no surprise considering he would most likely sit on the bench at both Spurs and Juve.
