Former Liverpool and Newcastle United striker has predicted that the Reds will come out on top when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Saturday.

Former England striker Owen, who starred for both sides during his career, has delivered his preview of the match, pinpointing one potential match-winner that Newcastle must stop if they want to have any chance of a result.

In his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 21 home league games against Newcastle United and they have scored more goals against the Magpies (89) than any other side in the history of the Premier League.

“Rafa Benitez is sure to get a warm reception back on Merseyside and it should be noted that he is unbeaten in three previous PL games against his former club with both games at Anfield finishing 2-2.

“Mo Salah has scored in his last six games for the Reds in all competitions and United need to stop the Egyptian if they are to get a positive result against this exciting Liverpool side.”

Owen has tipped the Reds to be leading the match at half-time, and for them to carry that lead until the finish.

Liverpool are currently sitting in third in the table, just two points behind Manchester United and two ahead of Tottenham, so a win is crucial for them to maintain or improve their position in the race for second.

Newcastle are lying in 15th currently after their disappointing 2-2 draw against Bournemouth last weekend that saw them relinquish a two-goal lead.

A win for the Magpies would however propel them towards mid-table and potential Premier League safety.

OPINION

It is hard to bet against Liverpool in this one. Newcastle should be coming in off a win, but instead they suffered a demoralising draw that could be the difference between life and death this season. They will therefore be ripe for the taking by a Liverpool side that shows no signs of letting up their brilliant form. The Reds have the best front three in Europe right now, and it is hard to see how this Newcastle defence will keep them at bay, especially at Anfield.
