Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback shared that he was enjoying his time on loan at Nottingham Forest but added that he won’t make a decision about his future until the summer.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder was asked about the possibility of him staying at Forest beyond the end of this season and appeared to take a dig at the Magpies not wanting him with his answer.

“It is nice to be wanted; it is nice to hear that you are,” said Colback, as quoted by the Nottingham Post.

“Nottingham Forest is a massive club and it has great potential here. I am really enjoying it here.

“But I am honestly not looking too far ahead at the minute, a lot can change in football overnight.

“I am just focusing on the last few games and doing my best for Forest in those eight matches, then we will see.”

Colback has made nine appearances in the Championship since joining Aitor Karanka’s side on loan and is set to return to St James’ Park when his loan expires at the end of the season.

The midfielder, who is contracted to the Magpies until 2019, continued to comment on the possibility of leaving Newcastle and added that he was just focusing on his football at the moment.

“The key in January was to come here and play some games after being frozen out at Newcastle,” stated Colback.

“The manager gave me the chance to do that here and I am thankful for that.”

“Clubs act later on, towards the window, it would be rare for anyone to be talking about transfers now, with the season still to run.

“I will play these eight games then go away on holiday with my family and then take it from there.”

The Newcastle Chronicle previously reported that the midfielder’s current Magpies deal sees him earn £40,000-a-week at St James’ Park.

OPINION

Colback had no need to take a dig at the Magpies when asked about potentially joining Forest in the summer. The 28-year-old midfielder was once seen as a model professional, but these comments are just childish. Colback could have easily just revealed that he was happy playing in Karanka’s side and wouldn’t mind joining them permanently, but instead he opted to take a dig. The 28-year-old better hope there are plenty of teams willing to sign him in the summer as comments of this nature, won’t see him welcomed back to St James’ Park with open arms. It’s a shame because the hard-working midfielder was previously loved at St James’ Park after opting to join them from their bitter rivals Sunderland.
