Gary Neville has predicted Manchester United to beat Liverpool on Saturday when the two teams meet at Old Trafford.

The Sky Sports pundit shared that he thought the two teams weren’t that different on paper but due to Man United playing at home on Saturday, he believed they would earn all three points.

“I always fancy United at home, with Liverpool you have to get through that first half an hour, especially at Anfield, where they are a completely different proposition,” said Neville, as quoted by Sky Sports’ website.

“I’ve always thought that for Liverpool away from home they struggled with the size of the pitch, despite them not being hugely different on paper.

“It’s a lot harder for United to play at Anfield and a lot harder for Liverpool to play at Old Trafford, so I fancy United to win.”

Jose Mourinho’s side go into the game one place above the Reds in the league, sitting second, but Jurgen Klopp’s side know they can leapfrog them in the table with a win on Saturday.

When the two sides met earlier in the season at Anfield, they shared the points with the game ending as a 0-0 draw.

OPINION

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Manchester United favourite Gary Neville has backed his former side, but it’s interesting that he believes the Reds struggle away from home due to the size of the pitch. Klopp’s side have achieved some memorable victories away from home this season, including their recent 5-0 win against Porto, but Neville is right to suggest that they’re different prospect at Anfield. However, the Reds have shown this season their ability to go to tough grounds and get all three points, as not many teams defeat Burnley at Turf Moor but that’s exactly what Klopp’s side did. Man United struggled to beat Crystal Palace in their last game, having to come from two goals behind, and it’s hard to be confident that they will win for that reason.
