Manchester United are set to make a formal offer for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney in the coming weeks, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claim that Man United scouts have relayed favourable reports on the Hoops’ 20-year-old to Jose Mourinho, and the Premier League giants will now step up their efforts to sign him.

The Daily Mirror report that Tierney is believed to be worth £25million and United are confident about signing him despite the defender signing a new six-year-deal with the Bhoys in October.

It is believed that Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian will all leave Old Trafford in the summer, and that the club have made signing a new left-back a priority in the summer.

Tierney has been a regular for the Hoops over the last few seasons, making 123 appearances for the club in total.

Good move for Celtic?

No.

Tierney has a bright future in the game and is one of the best players in Brendan Rodgers’ current squad, so it’s unthinkable to even consider selling him.

The 20-year-old defender is versatile, which according to the Daily Mirror caught Mourinho’s attention, and it would be impossible to replace in the transfer market if he left the club.

Likely to happen?

Manchester United’s interest in Tierney has been well documented for a while now, with the Daily Record reporting on Monday that they had been monitoring him ever since he broke into the Hoops’ first-team as a teenager.

The Daily Record also revealed that a move would depend on whether the defender would want to leave the club he supports.

If Tierney decided to depart his beloved Celtic, then Man United could tempt him.

Jose Mourinho’s side got further than the Hoops did in the Champions League this season and look way more capable of making headway in that competition compared to the Scottish club.

Tierney may be guaranteed trophies at Parkhead, but unlike Man United, the club can’t currently guarantee that they will be a force to reckon with in prestigious European tournaments anytime soon.
