Everton are looking to recruit at least three new players for their Under-23s squad in the summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The local newspaper claim that the Toffees are searching for reinforcements at centre-half, in midfield and up front, despite signing several youth prospects last year.

The Liverpool Echo report that David Unsworth’s side have been in talks with Leicester City’s 17-year-old midfielder Callum Wright, but the teenager only joined the Foxes last summer from Blackburn Rovers.

It is believed that the Toffees have also scouted Sheffield United’s Sam Graham in their search for a new centre-back, but have cooled interest in Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa due to his £5million asking price.

Unsworth’s side remain keen to boost their striking options, even though Fraser Hornby recently graduated from the Under-18s team, as Boris Mathis has struggled to settle in at the club after joining from FC Metz.

OPINION

This is some exciting news for Toffees supporters, as it’s important for the club to build for the future. It’s a shame that the report seems to suggest that the club will be unable to sign Wright as he’s only recently moved, as the midfielder’s reputation precedes him. The 17-year-old is thought to have a bright future in the game and it was no surprise that a Premier League team recruited him when they did. While the report doesn’t suggest that any youth signings are imminent, with Graham looking the most likely to join out of those mentioned, it does suggest business will be done in the summer.
