If you asked Liverpool fans where they want Jurgen Klopp to strengthen this summer, many of them would reply immediately and unequivocally: ‘goalkeeper.’

The man between the sticks has been a problem position for the Reds for several years now, ever since the departure of fan favourite Pepe Reina for Napoli.

Belgian Simon Mignolet has been the club’s custodian since then, making 202 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Sunderland in the summer of 2013.

This season has seen the rise of young German stopper Loris Karius, who has now replaced Mignolet as the club’s number one, but concerns still remain.

Karius has undoubtedly been in good form recently, but is the 24-year-old really the man to occupy Liverpool’s goal for the coming seasons?

A team like the Reds need a star in goal, someone who they can rely on day-in-day-out, a goalkeeper whose mistakes come once in a blue moon, not every month.

And there is one man possibly on the move this summer that would fit the bill perfectly: Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The young AC Milan stopper has seemed unsettled at the San Siro for a while now, and rumours have been continuous about a possible exit this summer.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has recognised the 19-year-old’s talent, and urged the club to sign him and make him their goalkeeper for the next ten years.

Speaking to ESPN, as quoted by the Mirror, Nicol said: “I would have no problem with him [Roma keeper Alisson], I would have no problem if they can get the likes of Donnarumma who would be a goalkeeper for the next decade. It is a weak spot, again as good as Karius has been recently, he’s not the finished article by a long way.”

Liverpool must heed Nicol’s words and swoop for Donnarumma who, as reported by the Daily Mail, is said to be keen on a move away from Milan this summer.

The 6ft 5in colossus is the next big goalkeeper in world football, with a poise and confidence that belies his young age, and experience that no other 19-year-old stopper in the world has anything close to.
