Everton’s Ashley Williams was woeful for Wales in their game against Uruguay on Monday and it should have made Sam Allardyce decide to axe him from his team for the rest of the season.

The 33-year-old was drastically off the pace for Ryan Giggs’ side and it was embarrassing that he could get nowhere near Luis Suarez, with the forward just strolling past Williams like he wasn’t even there during the game.

Wales were lucky to lose only 1-0 to the South American nation, as Williams was constantly torn apart by his opponents and appeared to be doing his best to make the scoreline worse.

While it may seem harsh for Allardyce to drop the experience centre-back based on an outing for his country, Willams hasn’t exactly impressed this season.

The 6ft 1in defender has looked drastically past his best and has been a liability for his side in the 34 appearances he has made across all competitions during this campaign.

Allardyce also knows that Williams can’t be trusted, despite his experience, as the defender recklessly got himself sent off against Burnley.

The avoidable red card helped the Clarets come from a goal behind to secure a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor at the start of March.

Williams has since missed the Toffees’ last two league games as he was suspended , and his club have successfully won both games without him in their team.

While Allardyce may think about recalling him to his line-up for the game against Liverpool, as that’s when Williams is next available to play, the Toffees manager must opt to keep the defender on the sidelines.

The centre-back may have only arrived at Goodison Park in 2016 after joining from Swansea City, but his Toffees career looks like it should be over.

So Allardyce should axe Williams from his plans for the games that remain, then urge the club to find the 33-year-old defender a new side in the summer window.
