Sigurdsson to miss between six and eight weeks

|

Everton playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson will miss between six to eight weeks with his knee injury, it has been confirmed by the club.

The Toffees revealed on their official website that the 28-year-old has had his results back after seeing a specialist and now has a time frame for his likely return.

He was injured at the weekend in the win over Brighton and will now have to watch on Sam Allardyce’ side from the stands.

Sigurdsson has been a vital player for the Merseyside club and a mainstay under the manager, which is why fans will view this news as a major blow.

The attacking midfielder could be back towards the end of April if his treatment goes well and the final two Premier League games in May are against Southampton and West Ham.

He has made 33 appearances across all competitions during his debut season with the club, scoring six goals and supplying five assists in return.

OPINION

Everton will be gutted to lose Sigurdsson for what could be the rest of the campaign and they could have done with his quality during the race for seventh. Allardyce’s side could remarkably this campaign still qualify for Europe next season and redeem what has been an average campaign this year. Sigurdsson personally will be disappointed for a spell on the sidelines and his absence will open the door for someone else. However, his participation with Iceland in the World Cup does not appear to be in andy danger and he can work towards that.
