Robles looks likely to join Getafe

|

Getafe are keen to sign Everton’s Joel Robles on a free transfer when his contract expires in June, according to AS.

The Spanish newspaper claim that the 6ft 4in goalkeeper is wanted by the Spanish club as current first choice keeper Vicente Guaita is expected to leave in the summer.

AS report that Getafe, who sit ninth in La Liga, tried to sign Robles last summer and even though the goalkeeper wanted to leave Merseyside, the Toffees wouldn’t let him go.

It is believed that there are several clubs in Spain interested in the goalkeeper, including Deportivo La Coruna, but his agent previously negotiated with Getafe which gives them an edge in getting his signature.

Getafe’s president Angel Torres also excitedly commented on potentially signing him last summer, which shows how interested the club are in him.

“If Ginés Carvajal manages to free him and reach an agreement, I intend him to come,” said Torres, as quoted by AS.

“He’s a boy who left the house, I’m excited to come back.”

Robles has made 65 appearances for the Toffees during his five-year spell at the club, however has only featured twice for the first-team this season.

Good move for Everton?

Yes.

Robles’ time at Goodison Park is destined to end when his contract expires in the summer, and it’s the best move for both parties.

The 27-year-old’s career has stalled this season due to the sensational performances of Jordan Pickford stopping him from getting in the first-team.

AS’ report suggests that the Toffees’ decision to sign Pickford upset Robles, but signing the England international was one of the best decisions the club has made in a long time.

Likely to happen?

Yes.

With Robles’ contract set to expire, he is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Getafe seems to be a likely destination for the goalkeeper, seeing as it’s his hometown and the fact that they would be willing to give him regular football as Guaita is expected to leave the club.

However there’s a small possibility that another interested team will swoop for his signature and stop Getafe’s advances.
