Mark Lawrenson has predicted Everton to beat Brighton 2-0 when the sides meet on Saturday.

The pundit shared that he expected the Toffees to be able to defeat the Seagulls at Goodison Park as their home form is drastically better than their away form.

“Everton were actually pretty good for the first 20 minutes or so of last week’s game against Burnley, they were proactive when they were 1-0 up and went looking for a second goal,” wrote Lawrenson in his predictions for BBC Sport.

“But once the Clarets got level there was only one team who looked like winning, and the result continued Everton’s hopeless run away.

“The Toffees are usually a lot stronger at home, however, which is why I am backing them here, despite Brighton’s impressive recent form.”

Sam Allardyce’s side go into Saturday match against the Seagulls with the sides level on points in the league.

However, Brighton are ranked higher in the table due to their superior goal difference.

OPINION

It’s strange to hear Lawrenson predict a win for the Toffees especially as he admits that Brighton are in such impressive form as of late. Sam Allardyce’s side looked a mess at the end of their last game against Burnley, with them slumping to a 2-1 defeat. The pundit is right in stating that the Toffees started the game at Turf Moor well, but they threw all their good work in the bin by the end of the 90 minutes. The Toffees’ home form may be better but they have shown no signs of improving under Allardyce and it’s hard to imagine them being able to beat an in-form Brighton side. If anything the Seagulls could achieve victory at Goodison Park on Saturday and make Allardyce’s time in charge of the Toffees even more miserable.
