Everton manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that Davy Klaassen is one of the fringe players that have been left “very frustrated” by their lack of action this season.

The 25-year-old has been an outcast in recent months and not featured in the senior team since December.

He arrived at Goodison Park in the summer from Ajax and was excepted to make a colossal impact, but the attacking midfielder has struggled during his first season in England.

The Holland international can’t force his way into Everton’s match day squad and his switch to the Merseyside club looks a bad one right now.

Allardyce has explained that Klaassen has looked “dejected” during training sessions given his frequent omission from the squad, while also detailing there are a few frustrated players also in the same boat.

“With Davy Klaassen we give him a game every now and then, but obviously he trains with the first team squad every day,” Allardyce said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“But when he trains he’s a bit dejected, like any player that finds himself in this position.

“It’s down to about three or four now not involved in the squads or preparations for the game, whereas before the end of the window it was eight or nine because we were overloaded with players.

“We’ve reduced that somewhat but still have a few players who are very frustrated.”

OPINION

Klaassen has featured just 13 times all season for Everton and it would be a big surprise to see him in action during the remainder of the campaign. The midfielder has completely fallen out of favour under Allardyce and slipped down the pecking order. The creative maestro was integral to Ajax last season as he scored 20 goals and supplied 12 assists for them in all competitions. However, he has not been able to replicate that kind of form on any level for the Toffees and can’t break into the squad for a team that are currently ninth in the Premier League table.
