Aston Villa travel to Burton on Saturday in the Championship and midfielder Birkir Bjarnason must be recalled to the starting XI.

Steve Bruce needs to freshen up his starting line up following the 3-1 loss to QPR on Tuesday night and with hindsight it’s easy to point up he should have freshened things up.

The Midlands giants do have the options on the bench to make a few rotations and central midfielder Mile Jedinak could do with a rest following the QPR defeat.

Bjarnason is the obvious replacement in the side and he is now beginning to really find his feet in English football after a slow start.

The Iceland international can become a secret weapon for Bruce given his versatility to play anywhere across the midfield and he can provide a goal threat.

He came off the bench to net a sensational goal in the 4-1 win over Wolves at the weekend and is due a start, with his last one coming back on 20 February against Preston.

Bjarnason should inject a freshness to the Villa side against Bolton and will put himself about in the middle.

He is beginning to understand his role more for the team and slowly becoming a big hit with supporters as they are crying out for Bruce to come into the side.

It is now a big ask for Villa to make up the seven-point gap to the play-offs, but are capable of going on a winning run and will need to utilise the squad.
