Jonjo Shelvey completed 90 minutes in the win over Southampton on Saturday – and Newcastle United fans on Twitter were blown away by the quality of his performance.
The 26-year-old midfielder returned from a knee injury to help his side record a crucial 3-0 victory in the Premier League.
The Magpies eased relegation fears with a crucial three points at St James’ Park as they showed the type of attacking form that has been missing for most of the season.
January recruit Kenedy netted a first-half brace to put the hosts in control, while Matt Ritchie added a third in the second period.
Rafael Benitez’s side are now five points above the bottom three and host Huddersfield in their next match.
Newcastle fans on social media highlighted the individual display of Shelvey and feel that he ran the show against Southampton.
The central midfielder was a massive influence on his side with his range of passing and picked up two assists during the match.
One supporter raised the point that he should be primed for an England call-up and he is surely somebody that will come into consideration for national team manager Gareth Southgate.
Shelvey has often been criticised for his inconsistency and is currently going through a purple patch of form.
