Aston Villa are interested in a summer swoop for Kilmarnock and Northern Ireland winger Jordan Jones, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Villa deployed club scouts to watch the 23-year-old in Northern Ireland’s 2-1 win over South Korea last week, with the winger completing 82 minutes.

The Daily Mail claim that scouts were suitably impressed and have placed the former Middlesbrough man on their shortlist of possible targets this summer.

It is said that Jones has turned down a new deal from Kilmarnock, with the wide man having one year left on his current contract.

Kilmarnock are currently sitting in fifth in the Scottish Premiership, with former Villa assistant and caretaker boss Steve Clarke at the helm.

Good move for Aston Villa?

It depends.

If Villa are promoted to the Premier League next season, then they should surely be looking at players of a higher calibre than Jones.

The Northern Ireland winger is obviously a good player, but whether he can perform at Premier League level is uncertain, and Villa will need players who most definitely can.

If the club however fail to get out of the second-tier this season, then Jones would be a sold acquisition, with the 23-year-old likely to come cheap with his contract out next summer.

Likely to happen?

Jones looks likely to leave Kilmarnock either this summer or next.

It looks like there are a few clubs interested in the winger, so Villa will have to move quickly if they do decide they want him.
