Aston Villa talisman John Terry will wait until May to make the final decision on his future in football, according to the Express.

The newspaper claim that the 37-year-old defender has informed Steve Bruce that his choice will become clear at the end of the season, as he works out the best option for what would be his last year playing.

The Express report that Terry’s decision rests on whether he can fathom playing against former club Chelsea, should Villa achieve promotion, with that putting an exit from the club on the cards.

The veteran has expressed in the past his unwillingness to come up against his beloved club, which contributed to his decision to move down to the Championship with Villa.

Terry’s contract runs out this summer after signing a one-year deal with the Villans at the beginning of the season.

OPINION

It has been clear for a while now that Terry will have a massive decision to make on his future come the summer. With Villa on the verge of a play-off spot and the chance at promotion to the Premier League, his reasoning for not wanting to play in the top-flight again might come into question. There is a chance that he will go back on his word and sign for Villa for another year if they do go up, and he might do the same if they stay in the second-tier. However, there is a high chance that Terry will not sign on for another year at Villa, with a coaching role at Chelsea rumoured for a while.
