Everton should already be drawing up plans to sell midfielder Davy Klaassen in the summer despite him only joining the club at the beginning of the season.

The 24-year-old has endured a torrid first year in English football since he left Dutch giants Ajax last summer, where he was a star player for them.

Manager Sam Allardyce has refused to name him in a Premier League match day since his mid-season appointment and it seems bizarre that the attacking midfielder was not given a chance.

The creative playmaker was given brief opportunities in the Europa League before the turn of the New Year, but he has completely fallen out of the pecking order since.

Klasssen’s situation at Goodison Park is a very strange one and it seems remarkable he can’t even force his way into the squad.

The Holland International arrived with a big reputation and it feels like the club have acted far too rashly by axing him altogether.

He made 50 appearances across all competitions last season for Ajaz, scoring 20 goals and supplying 12 assists in return.

Klaassen may have struggled initially with the pace and power of the Premier League, but was hardly given enough time and that to an extent was understandable amid early relegation fears.

However, with the club now looking up the table it seems bizarre that he hasn’t been given a reprieve by Allardyce.

Everton clearly don’t see him as an important player moving forward and trying to sell him on in the next market seems the best deal for both parties.
