Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal for midfielder Ben Watson, according to HITC.

The news outlet claims that the 32-year-old, who is now a free agent after being released by Watford in January, is undergoing a medical ahead of a switch to the City Ground.

It is understood that the Championship side nearly signed the central midfielder on loan from Watford on deadline day, but ran out of time to wrap up a deal.

The report details that the Englishman saw his contract terminated at Vicarage Road by mutual consent and that has allowed him to join Forest as a free agent.

Good move for Forest?

Watson is a very experienced professional in English football and will be a very smart addition as Forest tap into the free agent market.

The defensive midfielder made 11 appearances this campaign for Watford and was a mainstay in the side during the winter period.

He should be a very capable player when dropping down into the Championship and be an engine room in Aitor Karanka’s side.

Watson has Championship know-how with 204 appearances in England’s second-tier, while his 145 games in the Premier League suggest how capable he is as a midfielder.

He is now believed to be undergoing his medical with the Midlands club and a deal should be announced soon.
