Liverpool have made the decision not to chase Monaco playmaker Thomas Lemar in the summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the Reds have “cooled their interest” in the 22-year-old and that he is not a target ahead of next season.

It is understood that the attacking midfielder was mentioned as a potential replacement for Philippe Coutinho, but the Merseyside club are prepared to search elsewhere.

The report details that Liverpool were in the hunt for Lemar last summer and were put off by the excessive £90million price tag for the Monaco sensation.

Good move for Liverpool to end interest?

Lemar may not have hit his top heights this season, but he would still be a great signing for Liverpool and fill a hole in the starting XI.

Jurgen Klopp’s side could still do with a creative force in their midfield and the Monaco youngster may be the solution.

Lemar is still going to be consistent at the age of 22, but has proven he has enormous potential and should improve over time.

Likely to happen?

It seems like Lemar will not be Anfield bound despite strong reported interest in the past and that Liverpool could find an alternative in the summer.

However, there is still the second half of the season to play before the window re-opens and the form of players in the World Cup could also force clubs into transfers.
