Alfredo Morelos’ agent is set to travel to Scotland next week to begin talks regarding a new Rangers’ contract for his client, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim that the 21-year-old has his heart set on staying at the Gers, but Morelos wants a new deal to increase his current £7,000-a-week wage.

The Daily Record report that Morelos is currently one of the lower paid squad members and that the forward is confident the Light Blues can put together a package that will make him happy.

Morelos’ agent Michael Gorman is expected to arrive in Scotland, ahead of the Light Blues’ game against Hamilton on Sunday, in order to start contract talks with Rangers chiefs.

Morelos has been in excellent form for Rangers this season, having scored 15 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.

The 21-year-old’s form attracted the attention of Beijing Renhe, who had an £8million bid for him rejected in January, with the Daily Record believing that the Chinese club were just one of seven clubs interested in Morelos during the last window.

OPINION

Morelos deserves a new deal given his form this season, especially when you consider how little he earns compared to his teammates. Rangers need to tie the 21-year-old down to a long lucrative contract because he will be key to their future success. Morelos’ goals this season have been vital in the Gers climbing the table to sit third. Morelos looks likely to continuing supplying the goals for the Gers and this will no doubt attract further interest from other clubs. This is why it’s important that the Gers secure his long-term future now and focus on improving themselves in the summer.
