Adrian Durham believes Brendan Rodgers should leave Celtic at the end of the season as he can’t improve the side in his third season.

The talkSPORT pundit shared that he thought the Hoops manager, who is in his second season at the club, wouldn’t be able to better what he has already achieved so he might as well leave.

“I’m looking at it thinking this is the second season for Brendan Rodgers, he can’t do any better, he can’t do any more,” said Durham on talkSPORT as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“The problem with the third year is that he’s not really going to do anything that he’s not done before.

“He’s been unbeaten and I can’t see them going any further in Europe, so all he has to focus on is whether they can improve and do better, I can’t see that.”

Durham also revealed that he thought with Rangers getting their “house in order”, then there was a real chance that the Gers could beat the Hoops to the Scottish Premier League title next season.

“I think he has to get out before Rangers overtake them,” stated Durham.

“He has to think I don’t want this to be on my watch, I don’t want Rangers to catch up with Celtic on my watch, I don’t want that on my CV’.

“And I think there’s a real possibility of that next season.”

OPINION

Durham is completely wrong to suggest that Rodgers needs to leave Celtic in order to protect his CV. While it’s true that Rangers are more than capable of winning the Scottish Premier League next season at the Bhoys’ expense, Rodgers should be excited for the challenge. Any manager worth his salt would want to win trophies that they really have to work for, and the re-emergence of Rangers would ensure that Rodgers’ would have to get the best out of his Celtic side to continue consistently winning the league. Therefore while Durham may be suggesting that Rodgers’ cash in on his past achievements at the Hoops in order to secure himself a job at a top club, he’s completely wrong to do so.
