Marco Asensio was one of the stories of Real Madrid’s 2016/17 season, with the young winger scoring screamer after screamer to announce his arrival on the world stage.

He capped off a remarkable season – one in which he scored 10 goals in 38 appearances – with Madrid’s fourth goal in the Champions League final success against Juventus.

The 22-year-old’s outstanding displays for Madrid led many to believe he would go on to become a key player for Los Blancos this season, but in many ways that has not occurred.

Manager Zinedine Zidane has continued to use Asensio mainly as a threat from the bench, with only around half of the winger’s appearances coming in starts.

And now, Zidane’s insistence on leaving the young speed machine on the bench is beginning to cause problems between player and manager.

As reported by Diario Gol, Asensio is now considering his options ahead of a potential summer exit, with his decision to be made at the end of the season.

It is said that Asensio already has five clubs that have shown concrete interest in his services this summer, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Asensio’s preferred choice is to remain at the Bernabeu, but it is reported that he will not hesitate to leave if Zidane continues to overlook him for a starting spot.

And this is where Tottenham Hotspur come in.

Asensio is looking for a club where he can become a star, and where better at the moment in English football than Spurs?

The club are on the brink of an exciting period in their history, being set to move in to their new stadium at the start of next season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men play some of the most attractive football in the division, and have shown this season that they have what it takes to compete in Europe as well.

Tottenham have a young, hungry squad, comprised of exciting emerging talents alongside established stars, and it is the perfect platform for Asensio to develop his career.

Asensio has played all across the front line for Madrid this season, and would fit in perfectly with a Spurs attack which is beginning to fire on all cylinders.

There is no doubt that the Spain international would be a star at Spurs, with the playing squad not littered with prima donnas like Madrid.

The winger will undoubtedly cost a lot this summer, but if Spurs want to continue to compete with their rivals, money will need to be spent in the transfer window.

Tottenham already have a brilliant playing squad, but need to add more depth, and the signing of Asensio will add some real quality to their burgeoning attack.

Pochettino and Daniel Levy need to capitalise on the winger’s precarious situation at Madrid, and pounce quickly to secure his signature ahead of their rivals.
