Tottenham Hotspur sneaked a last-gasp win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday, and fans on Twitter were blown away by the performance of Eric Dier.
Harry Kane was the hero for the Lilywhites once again, with the striker heading past Wayne Hennessey in the 88th minute to seal a crucial 1-0 win.
Spurs dominated the game but were unable to find a way through a stubborn Palace side that has been ravaged by injuries in recent weeks.
The visitors had two clear penalty shouts before they eventually sealed the win, with both waved away by referee Kevin Friend.
The win takes Spurs temporarily up to fourth in the table, back to within two points of Liverpool and now two ahead of Chelsea ahead of their match v Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Attention before the game turned to the absence of Jan Vertonghen, who was ruled out after taking a knock to his ankle in training this week.
That meant that Dier, who has played most of this season in midfield, was forced to slot into the back four for Tottenham.
The 24-year-old England international put in a solid performance as Palace’s forwards disappointed, and managed to keep a crucial clean sheet in Spurs’ search for more Champions League football, delighting fans on Twitter.

Dier gets a bit of grief from some fans but he’s so crucial. Has his occasional brain fades but there cannot be many players who can play CB & CM to the quality needed for a top 4 side #COYS

Eric Dier is the boss. No one in the premiership does the job he does like that. Prepares all week to play in midfield. Does a brilliant job at a drop of a hat in defence. #MyG #YIDS
