Michael Owen predicted that there would be lots of goals in Liverpool’s game against Tottenham on Sunday but fails to reveal what he believed the result would be.

The former Reds player in his predictions for BetVictor shared that Liverpool will be looking to exact revenge on Spurs after losing 4-1 to them earlier in the season, while Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be hoping to prove they’re capable of winning at Anfield.

“Liverpool will be looking for revenge against Spurs following their 4-1 defeat at Wembley earlier in the season,” stated Owen.

“Spurs were very good against a disappointing United at Wembley midweek, but this is the acid test.

“They failed the Anfield examination in the corresponding fixture last season when they were soundly beaten and the north London outfit have only won one of their last 23 away PL games against Liverpool.”

The pundit went on to reveal that he believes there would be goals due to Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah both being expected to feature.

“Harry Kane leads Mo Salah in the race for the Golden Boot and it would be no surprise to see both add to their impressive individual tally in what looks certain to be an open attacking game,” said Owen.

Kane currently is top of the Premier League goalscoring charts with 21 goals, but Salah is just behind him, having scored an impressive 19 league goals in his first season at Liverpool.

Tottenham sit fifth ahead of their clash with third place Liverpool, but know victory would guarantee that they move above Sunday’s opponents.

OPINION

Owen certainly has played it safe by not predicting a result, because it’s hard to know how this fixture will go. Liverpool are far from predictable given the fact that they inflicted Manchester City’s first domestic defeat of the season only to go on and lose to Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion in their following games. It’s also equally as difficult to know which Tottenham side will turn up on Sunday, will it be the one who dominated Manchester United or the one that couldn’t beat Southampton or Newport County? Then again Owen has probably jinxed Sunday’s match anyway by predicting goals, as normally Premier League games that should be filled with goals somehow always appear to end 0-0.
