Mike Ashley would be willing to sell Newcastle United for £300million in a cash upfront deal, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper claim that Ashley’s demand is way off what Amanda Staveley had previously bid for the Magpies and she is yet to make a fourth offer for the club, having not spoken to Ashley since December.

The Daily Telegraph report that Staveley is believed to be willing to make another bid through her PCP Capital company for the club, but will wait until Newcastle United’s Premier League status is confirmed for next season.

The report claims that Staveley’s last offer was in the region of £250million and that sources close to Ashley doubt whether he would listen to a fourth offer from her, as he believes she wasted his time.

Newcastle United are currently 16th in the table after 26 games played, and are only point above the relegation zone.

OPINION

The only positive for Newcastle United supporters to take from this report is that Ashley is still trying to sell the club. The rest of the report makes for a disappointing read as it suggests that a takeover is no closer to happening. While fans are no doubt still keen to see Ashley leave the club, their immediate worry is about relegation. The Magpies didn’t complete enough transfer business in January to assure fans that everything would be okay in the second half of the season, and with them only a point away from the bottom three, it’s a worry. It’s interested to note that Staveley will wait for their Premier League status to be confirmed as at this rate, it might go down to the last game of the season.
