Phil Thompson compared Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to Cristiano Ronaldo when predicting who would win the Premier League golden boot.
The pundit shared that he thought Harry Kane would win the golden boot, but despite believing that Salah would miss out on the honour, Thompson heaped praise on the Reds’ 25-year-old winger.
“It is just absolutely phenomenal what Salah is doing though,” said Thompson on Sky Sports’ website.
“We haven’t seen a winger score this amount of goals since Cristiano Ronaldo was in the Premier League.
“It looks extremely close and I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Salah has missed more good chances than Kane, who is just clinical.”
Salah is currently one goal behind Kane in the race to win the Premier League golden boot this season after scoring 22 goals in 26 league appearances.
The 25-year-old signed for Liverpool from AS Roma for £34million, according to the BBC, and signed a five-year contract upon joining.

The 25-year-old has been in prolific form and gets plenty of opportunities to score despite playing on the wing. However, at least Thompson recognised Salah’s performances this season by comparing him to Ronaldo. The current Real Madrid star showed that wingers are capable of being prolific in the Premier League during his time with Manchester United, and Thompson is right to make the comparison. While it might not be a trophy for their club, Liverpool supporters will no doubt love it if Salah wins the prestigious golden boot this season.
