Paul Merson shared that he thought Aston Villa were one of the best teams in the Championship but predicted that they would lose to Fulham.

The Villans have won their last seven league games in a row to sit second in the table ahead of playing Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

“They’ve been absolutely outstanding, I’ve just gone for Fulham due to home advantage, but I think Villa will take a draw,” said Merson in his Sky Sports Super Six predictions.

“Hard game Fulham away, they’re playing well.”

The pundit was then asked whether Saturday’s game was between two of the best sides in the league, and Merson revealed that he rated both sides highly.

“After Wolves, I would say so,” stated the pundit.

The Villans won the first league meeting between the sides 2-1 at Villa Park earlier in the season, with John Terry and Albert Adomah scoring for Steve Bruce’s side.

OPINION

Aston Villa have been on an unbelievable run as of late, but all good things must come to an end. Fulham may have failed to beat Bolton in their last league outing, but the Cottagers have been in impressive form recently. Bruce confirmedĀ ahead of Saturday’s game thatĀ Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah were both likely to miss the match due to injury. Without the talented duo the Villans will struggle to cope with an in-form Fulham. If at least one of the pair is able to feature in the game, it might see Aston Villa scrape a draw if they’re lucky.
