Liverpool will buy a goalkeeper this summer and are likely to sign a new midfield enforcer as well as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, according to the Sunday Times.

The newspaper claim that Jurgen Klopp will be in need of a new goalkeeper as Simon Mignolet looks likely to leave, with AS Roma’s Alisson being the preferred target for goalkeeping reinforcements.

The Times report that the Reds have currently dropped out of the race for Alisson’s signature due to his price, but the goalkeeper’s representatives are working hard to ensure his price tag is not prohibitive.

The latest figures suggest Alisson will cost anywhere between £60million and £90million, as AS Roma want a high price from Liverpool as they believe the Merseyside giants got Mohamed Salah too cheaply from them.

The Times’ report doesn’t name who the Reds are looking to replace Coutinho with, but does reveal Napoli’s Jorginho is Klopp’s first choice when it comes to signing a new No.6.

OPINION

Liverpool are certainly targeting the right areas to improve in the summer, if this report is accurate. However it seems weird that they’re not looking at signing another new centre-back as their squad could currently do with one. The Reds’ chase of Alisson has been well documented in recent months and it seems there’s still a chance that he could arrive at Anfield, if his representatives get his way. Klopp’s pursuit of Jorginho is very exciting as the 26-year-old defensive midfielder could be a revelation in the Premier League. Jorginho has impressed in the 26 appearances he has made for Napoli this season and he will cost Liverpool a large fee.
