Liverpool want to sign Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook for £20million in the summer, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the 21-year-old midfielder and has been tracking Cook during his spell with Bournemouth.

The Sun report that the Reds plan a summer move for the Cherries’ midfielder as there will be a massive gap left in their team following the expected departure of Emre Can in the summer.

Can’s current deal expires at the end of the season and The Sun previously reported that the 24-year-old was set to join Juventus in the summer.

Cook regularly features for Bournemouth in the Premier League, after breaking into the first-team earlier in this season, and has made 19 league appearances during this campaign.

The 21-year-old gained attention last summer as he was the captain on England’s U-20s World Cup winning side.

Cook was also called up by Gareth Southgate to be part of England’s senior squad in November, but didn’t win his first cap.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes.

Cook is the perfect replacement for Can as he has proven himself in the Premier League this season, and only shows signs of getting better.

With the Reds reportedly willing to pay £20million for the 21-year-old, it will be an excellent piece of business for the club, as he will no doubt be worth double that in a couple of seasons.

Likely to happen?

There’s definitely a chance it could happen.

Bournemouth will be reluctant to sell the talented midfielder and won’t be forced into taking a deal they’re not happy with as Cook’s contract doesn’t expire until 2022.

However if the Reds are willing to pay £20million for Cook, it might be too high a figure for the Cherries to turn down.

Bournemouth reportedly agreed to buy Cook from Leeds United in 2016 for a deal, that could eventually see them having paid £10million for him, according to the Guardian.

This means that the Premier League club would have doubled their money with Cook in under two-years, if they accepted the Reds’ reportedly planned bid.
