Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted that goalkeeper Loris Karius will retain his place between the sticks for their Champions League clash against Porto on Wednesday.
Klopp has been known to rotate his goalkeepers for most of this season, with both Karius and Simon Mignolet going through phases of being his preferred stopper.
Karius, 24, has recently risen to become the German’s number one ‘keeper in the Premier League, meaning that Mignolet was expected to be drafted in for the Champions League.
The Liverpool boss has however suggested that he will depart from this policy of rotation on Wednesday.
As quoted by The Times, Klopp said: “I have not made the final decision, but it is not the same situation as it was. A good one will play. That’s the plan.”
Karius has started Liverpool’s last five league matches after making just three further appearances in the competition before that, and his good form looks to have finally secured him the number one spot after his 2016 arrival.

Klopp’s reversal from his rotation policy would suggest that Mignolet is seriously out of favour at Liverpool at the moment. It may also suggest that the Belgian’s time at the club is coming to an end. Karius has been in good form for the Reds recently, and is set to be rewarded for that with a Champions League start on Wednesday. He did start all of their group games, but at that time was number two to Mignolet, and this development shows that he is finally coming good on his development.
