Everton fans were furious on social media after reading a report that suggested Farhad Moshiri was considering making Marco Silva the next Toffees manager.

The Daily Star reported that Moshiri had started drafting up a shortlist of potential candidates to replace Sam Allardyce in the summer.

The newspaper claimed that Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca, Luis Enrique, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone and Marco Silva were among the names being considered.

It is believed that Moshiri remains an admirer of Silva, after trying to make him Ronald Koeman’s successor, but has his doubts about the manager after the way things ended at Watford.

Silva lost his job at Vicarage Road in January, with the Hornets issuing an official statement at the time, via their website, that stated the main reason they parted company with Silva was because of a “unwarranted approach by a Premier League rival.”

This seemed to suggest that’s Everton pursuit of Silva had caused Watford to relieve the manager of his duties.

The Toffees were understood to have been willing to pay the Hornets £10million, according to the BBC, in compensation in order to make Silva their manager, after sacking Koeman in October.

Silva ended up staying at Watford, with the club unwilling to release him from his contract, but after leaving the Hornets in January, he is yet to be hired by another club.

One Toffees supporter, after reading the report and based on what previously happened with Silva, tweeted that the Portuguese manager would definitely replace Allardyce, so everyone should stop getting excited.
