Emmanuel Petit is convinced that Alexandre Lacazette will not be at Arsenal beyond August as Arsene Wenger no longer believes in the forward.

The former Gunners midfielder shared that with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joining the club, Lacazette’s Arsenal career may already be in jeopardy despite only joining in the summer.

“Lacazette is under massive pressure, he needs to improve or face the exit this summer,” said Petit, as quoted by The Sun.

“Aubameyang’s signing tells me it might already be too late. Arsene Wenger’s belief in Lacazette has gone.”

Lacazette joined the Gunners in the summer from Lyon for £46.5million, according to the BBC, but has only scored nine goals in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Arsenal opted to bring another forward to the club in the January window as the club spent £56million, according to the BBC,to sign Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

OPINION

This is a huge claim from Petit as after investing so much in Lacazette, the club surely wouldn’t sell him in the summer. Wenger needs both Lacazette and Aubameyang at the club following the departure of Olivier Giroud to Chelsea. While it’s true Lacazette faces a difficult battle to feature in the team following Aubameyang’s arrival, there’s no reason why both can’t survive at the club. Wenger is an experienced manager and knows that a player needs time in order to settle into the Premier League, and that’s probably why Lacazette hasn’t set the world alight since joining. Given time the 26-year-old will soon live up to his price-tag.
