Don Goodman shared that he believes Aston Villa’s recent fantastic form should be no surprise to anyone as Steve Bruce is their manager.

The Sky Sports pundit revealed his high opinion of Bruce when stating that he thought the Villans’ clash with Birmingham City on Saturday would be a real test for Bruce’s side.

“If we were looking at this game a few weeks ago it would be a no-brainer to say that Aston Villa should be winning, but Steve Cotterill has really got Birmingham at it in the last couple of weeks and it will be much more of a test,” said Goodman on Sky Sports’ EFL Matters.

“Obviously Aston Villa are at home and on a fantastic run of form, and they’ve started beating the teams around them as well for the first time this season, with the Bristol City and Middlesbrough results springing to mind.

“But why should we be surprised?

“Any team that Steve Bruce takes over in the Championship will end up near the top.”

Aston Villa currently sit third in the Championship after winning their last six leagues games in a row.

However Birmingham City do go into the Second City derby having not suffered a loss in their last three league games.

OPINION

It’s nice to hear Bruce getting the praise he deserves, as he has done a fabulous job at the Villans this season. The experienced manager has had to deal with injury problems throughout the season, which have made his job difficult. However with the side looking close to having a clean bill of health, Bruce is showing what he can achieve with the club. The Villans could still earn automatic promotion to the Premier League this season, as they’re only one point behind second placed Derby County. If Aston Villa manage to do that, then surely more pundits will follow Goodman’s example and compliment Bruce on a job well done.
