Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react with mixed verdicts after the club terminated Cameron Carter-Vickers’ season-long loan move to Sheffield United.
Spurs announced on their official website on Monday night that they have recalled the centre-back, 20, from the Championship promotion hopefuls, who he joined for the entirety of the campaign last August.
Tottenham have activated a recall option in the initial deal as Carter-Vickers returns to White Hart Lane to compete for a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s senior squad.
The USA international has been a key player for Sheffield United this season, establishing himself in central defence and making 17 appearances in all competitions, and also earned his first senior USA cap in November.
Some Spurs fans are delighted at the return of a player who Pochettino has tipped to be one of the outstanding centre-backs in England, as he will provide quality cover at the back.
Others are confused, given the senior centre-backs ahead of Carter-Vickers in the pecking order, and believe it could be a sign that Tottenham are preparing for the exit of contract rebel Toby Alderweireld in the summer.
