Leeds United are keen to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan as a replacement for Andy Lonergan, according to a reliable journalist.

Football Insider reported earlier today (Thursday) that Sunderland have expressed an interest in signing Lonergan to solve their keeping dilemma and that Leeds have floated the idea of a swap deal.

Yorkshire Evening Post corespondent Phil Hay has now reported on his personal Twitter account that the Black Cats are ready to table a bid for Lonergan, 34, ahead of the transfer window cut-off next week.

He adds that Leeds are “in no rush to lose Lonergan” but are eyeing Liverpool back-up keeper Bogdan as a “possible loan replacement”.

Lonergan has not featured for Leeds since the 4-1 defeat to Wolves in November and has been forced to watch from the sidelines as Felix Wiedwald regained his spot as the first choice in goal.

Good move for Leeds?

Bogdan is way down the pecking order at Liverpool after struggling to make an impact since joining from Bolton in the summer of 2015. With Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward ahead of him in the pecking order, the 20-times Hungary international is likely to be desperate for first team action after spending last season on loan at Wigan, which was cut short by a serious knee injury. Bogdan is jittery when confronted by set pieces but he has smart reflexes and would certainly be an upgrade on Lonergan. He would be a very shrewd loan signing for Leeds.

Likely to happen?

There is a growing sense that Lonergan will move to Sunderland in search of first team football. If that happens, expect a replacement to come in by next Wednesday and that man could well be Bogdan.
