Celtic fans took to Twitter to criticise the display of striker Odsonne Edouard after their team’s demolition of Brechin in the Scottish Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers’ men booked their passage to the next round of the cup with a routine 5-0 win that was secured by goals from James Forrest, Scott Sinclair, Olivier Ntcham, Dedryck Boyata and Edouard himself, who rounded off the scoring in the 86th minute.

It was the fifth goal of the season for Edouard, 20, after he was given the nod to spearhead the attack ahead of Moussa Dembele and the injured Leigh Griffiths in the team’s first match since their three-week winter break.

Manager Rodgers admitted afterwards that he had omitted Dembele because he had been affected by the transfer speculation that swirls around him in final days of the January window.

Supporters were unimpressed with the performance of his fellow Frenchman Edouard, who is on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

One said that he wouldn’t be a Celtic player for long, while others questioned his ability to finish and lead the line for the 2016-17 treble winners.
