Leeds United striker Mallik Wilks is no longer expected to join Carlisle on loan after a deal collapsed, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer Phil Hay claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 19-year-old is no longer joining the League Two club on loan for the rest of the season.

The Yorkshire Evening Post had reported that the centre-forward was on the verge of making the temporary switch in the next 48 hours.

However, in a dramatic twist a new loan deal has been agreed with League Two outfit Grimsby Town and it should be completed tomorrow (Friday).

Good move for Leeds?

Leeds do already have an overload of forward options in their first team and allowing Wilks to continue his development out on loan in the second half of the season is smart.

The English teenager is extremely highly rated and spent the first half of the campaign impressing with Accrington Stanely.

He made 24 appearances for the League Two side and certainly proved he has great potential with is return of give goals.

Another loan spell should help speed up his improvement and fans will hope to see him in the Whites first team at Elland Road in the coming years.

Likely to happen?

Hay is certainly a credible source when it comes to all things Leeds and it seems that Carlisle will not be Wilks’ destination after all.

However, he is still set for another stint in the lower leagues and a switch to Grimsby is expected on Friday at some stage.
